Bachelor of Fine Arts: The University of Michigan, 1985.

In February of 1995 I decided to undertake a three-part series of drawings and paintings based on music I listen to while I'm working. The artwork uses themes I'm interested in as narrative. After each series is completed, I have created a handmade book that displays the entire series and quotes from the music that inspired it.

February 1995 - July 1995: Letters from Prison. This series of 20 oil paintings and drawings on paper (30" x 44") explores the poetry of Jean Genet and the music of Adam Duritz. I read all of Genet's work and the biography of Genet by Edmund White.

September 1995 - June 1996: Cain. This collection of 47 works includes oil paintings, drawings, ceramic tile murals, and prints based on the music of Mark Eitzel. I wanted to get to know this Biblical figure by doing an extended study of him, and used the writings of George Bataille and Rene Girard as the intellectual basis of the work.

September 1996 - Present: Los Angeles. This series of oil paintings and drawings is based on the music of Pavement. During this series I've been studying the poetry of Pablo Neruda in Spanish, and reading extensively on the Chicano experience in America.

Professional Affiliations:

I have had two recent one-person shows at Matrix Gallery, Ann Arbor, Michigan, both of which sold out (May 1993, May 1995).

I have been a drawing instructor for ten years, privately and at the Ann Arbor Art Association (1985-1991) and the Ann Arbor Artist's Cooperative. I was a student at the Vermont Studio School (summer term 1985) in sculpture.

My work is sold locally and nationally and included in the collection of Michigan Bell Telephone.
